2024 SEMLA UPDATE: Tour the Furman Carillon!

Attendees of this year’s Annual Meeting will now also have the opportunity to tour the iconic campus bell tower. The tour will commence at 12:45 pm, allowing participants some time to have their lunch, and finish in time to attend the first afternoon session. Golf carts will be available to transport attendees to and from the bell tower, but for those who would like to leisurely take in the scenery, the tower is less than a 10-minute walk from the music building.

Please be advised that the bell tower is not accessible for individuals with mobility challenges or certain sensitivities. The visit requires participants to climb multiple flights of narrow, winding stairs, and the tower itself is not equipped with standard safety features such as railings over windows. Additionally, due to the open structure of the tower, exposure to the elements is to be expected.

This experience is not recommended for individuals who may have a fear of heights or claustrophobia. However, for those who feel comfortable, the tower offers breathtaking views of Swan Lake and the surrounding campus, as well as an up-close look at the carillon mechanism in action.

Your safety and comfort are important to us, so please consider these factors before participating in this activity.
